Fiat Freddy!

This weekend we decided to escape the cloudy skies of Lima and explore the ancient city of Caral. Caral is an ancient city, dated back to approximately 3000 BC, just 200 kilometers north of Lima. The road to Caral is smooth until you hit the last 10 kilometers, then you're basically driving up a river bed. Along the way you are able to see the majestic Andes Mountains, impressive sand dunes with coastal views, and orange corn. Yes, imagine the color of the orange cones used on the streets to direct traffic and that's the color of the corn we saw on the roadside.

We rented "Freddy", who happens to be a Fiat, from Budget car rental Friday evening, and left early Saturday morning. Driving down here is a piece of cake, there are NO rules! You just have to be a little pushy or you'll never get anywhere. We enjoyed our little car and were sad to see him go. Brett's only complaint was the no power steering, apparently he had enough of that from The Bully (previous truck he owned). Personally I enjoyed driving the car around crazy Lima without a care in the world about dinging it up (we had rental insurance).

To sum it up we had a GREAT time exploring the area a little north of Peru. The history lesson was awesome. Next stop: the jungle?
