With all this training for the marathon, my birthday was a welcomed event. I decided to take the day off and spend time with Steph and a few other friends. What I didn't plan on happening was Stephanie giving me a Garmin running watch. In the words of Alanis Morisette, "Isn't it ironic?"
What is a Garmin 405?
You've probably heard of the Garmin brand before, but maybe not the Garmin GPS running watches. My Garmin 405 has the capability to contact the satellites in space, yes, that's right, space, and tell me where I am at all times. I know how long I've run, what pace I'm running, how many calories I'm burning, and the elevation gain and loss along the way.
Other cool features
Besides the features mentioned above, the Garmin 405 is able to save locations in case you are running in a new city and don't want to remember all of the twist and turns. You can also set up simple and interval workouts according to distance, time, and calories. I am 100% certain that my friend Ross could have run a 4:30 mile had been training with one of these babies.
Garmin Connect
After each workout I can wireless transfer the data to Garmin's webpage at Garmin Connect. I can see my route on Google Maps, know all of the above-mentioned information and can even see a video of me running my route taken from the satellite (Alright, that last part was a lie, but the rest is true).
All in all, it was a great birthday present and I look forward to the Garmin 405 helping me survive the rolling hills that the Mountain Home Marathon has to offer.
You had me with the video, ha! The Garmin 405 almost makes me want to become a runner, almost. Are you going to let Steph borrow it?
ReplyDeleteSO cool! I want one. What a great gift for a marathon runner in training. Maybe you can even run well enough to hang with Steph :)
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome- it's about time you two had something like this. The video thing is a great idea, too:).
ReplyDeletemakes my 305 look so clunky and bland...
ReplyDeletethere goes the neighborhood :-(
