As children growing up in the Jones house we were encouraged, just like most children, to put the dishes away after using them. For some reason this was a very difficult task for us Jones children. The farthest our dishes could make it was the sink.
I can still hear the words of Mammy Jones echoing, "Why can't you kids put your dishes away ALL THE WAY!?! How hard is it to put your dishes INSIDE the dishwasher?!? Who do you think is going to do it, the Toothfairy??"
Silly mom, the toothfairy is only interested in teeth! Of course SHE doesn't do it!
It never occurred to me that SOMEONE actually put the dishes in the dishwasher. They always eventually made it in there and there was always a supply of dishes in the cupboard so Santa could do them for all I cared...
I had a rude awakening after getting married... the dishes don't magically just get washed and put back away...
This memory just came back to me tonight as I was doing the dishes at home where that all too familiar pile of dishes was sitting waiting for the "toothfairy". Growing up is tough.
Thanks Mammy Jones for always keeping a tidy home without the help of your rotten kids. :)
Haha, you crack me up! Yes, growing up is hard. I found the same thing about the bathrooms being cleaned. You mean there's no magic bathroom-cleaner-fairy?? What?!
ReplyDeleteAmen! Yes, I feel like we are always doing dishes ALWAYS! How can it be?
