My new job!

Is it bad to say that after not working for a while that I'm used to it and don't really want to go back?? Just so you all know, I'm back in a research lab at St. Louis University (SLU) where I'm working alongside an immunologist and ophthalmologist focusing on the herpes simplex virus (HSV) and the activation of it through the trigeminal nerve (more specifically the optic nerve and cornea region). The hypothesis and grant we are researching has to do with the actual immune response that occurs once activation of the virus happens and determining how/why it affects the cornea the way it does. We are working with knockout mice (yes I have to touch hundreds the filthy things) doing corneal transplants, bone marrow transplants, swabs, and lots of lab work. I will fill you in more information of the little things after I finish reading/understanding the grant.

The fuzzy creatures I get to see every day...

All in all I like the aspects of being back in a lab but it confirms my feelings that I know eventually, when all is said and done, I would much rather work in a clinic where I am treating HUMANS, not rodents.

This job is interesting and it tests my abilities to think critically which makes me like it however at the end of the day I can't help but think about my options for retirement plans...

  2. Congratulations on your new job! Sure hope it doesn't put a damper on New Orleans (although a job is slightly more important.)
