Childbirth? baby?

I know this might sound silly to many of you but last night it finally hit me, I'm going to be going through childbirth sometime soon...very soon... And with that, I'm going to have a baby to take care of soon...very soon... Of course I knew this time would come but I guess it always seemed like something in the far far far future. Friends and family keep asking if we have our baby's room is all painted (you do that? I didn't know babies cared), what type of furniture we have for the baby (it needs furniture? Brett and I barely have any furniture), and what books have we read to help prepare us (I grew up in a family of 10 kids where I changed a lot of diapers and seemed to always be babysitting, what do I need to read from a book?). I think we're a little behind. People have asked how I'm going to deliver, I just assumed I go to the hospital when I know I didn't just pee my pants and the doctor does the work. Epidural? Yes, please! IF I can't have that, I have instructed Brett to hit me over the head to knock me out. I'd like to think of myself as a strong woman, but is it really necessary to go through all that pain when we have modern medicine to help with that? These are just my thoughts right now, maybe things will change as D-day gets a little closer.

I hope you don't think this means we aren't excited for our baby Z to come, we couldn't be happier! Brett likes to talk to her daily, and only will address her in Spanish. He hopes to have her bilingual by age 3. I enjoy her company as she constantly is reminding me of her presence by her sharp jabs to my stomach and bladder. She already has a personality of her own and it makes me very excited for the day she can be in our arms.

Sorry Baby Z if we're not the most prepared parents in the world but that doesn't mean we love you any less!

  1. You're smart. Get the epidural. And don't listen to anyone who says it's wonderful without one. They're lying to you. :) And I think you're plenty prepared for a baby with that many siblings! You will be a great mommy! I'm so excited to see her. Any names yet??

  4. I owe my fond memories of birth to the epidural! I was just like you. Women have been giving birth for ages why do I need a book? No baby room just yet, just a bassinet. I still stand by all my decisions! Sooo excited for you guys!

  5. Steph! Even though I am not pregnant, nor plan on being that way possibly ever, I think all of your same thoughts about the whole thing. I love the painting the room comment. SOOOO true. I mean seriously, by the time the baby even knows colors you probably A. Won't even live there any more or B. the baby will hate that particular color. And yes! Why not take any and all pain meds available! That is what they are there for. Its not an iron man contest, why would anyone choose not to get epidural. I hope the rest of your pregnancy is perfect and you are able to have happy memories of being pregnant. Miss ya Steph!
