Lunahuana!

Last weekend we took a break from the dreary skies of Lima and hightailed it down to a little city nestled in the Andes Mountains called Lunahuana. To get to Lunahuana we had to drive through places like this.

Lunahuana is a small little city approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes southeast of Lima. The main attraction is the beautiful blue, trout-filled river that runs through picturesque canyons. They have green, camping fields along the bank of the river and you can even rent kayaks or rafts during the rainy season. You know, come to think of it, you can rent kayaks and rafts during the dry season too, but be sure to bring a pillow for comfort as there are a lot of rocks.

We stayed at the hotel Villa Sol because we were
informed that the road would be closed due to rally racing in the morning. Villa Sol had nicely trimmed terraces, an 8-foot deep pool, and river access. They also had a bed that Stephanie refused to touch so we slept on top of our own blanket. We were slightly crammed that night since we don't actually fit the standard native size.

Saturday was filled with breathtaking views, dangerously narrow roads, and cool "Goonies" bridges to farms and secret Incan buried treasure. Oh did I mention the rally car that didn't make the turn?

In the end Lunahuana ended up being a great weekend get away. We would highly recommend this area for anyone visiting or living here in Peru. Plus, next time we head down, I should have my new fishing pole. Watch out river trout, here I come.
